Why is ship traffic suspended in the Bosphorus?

The 229-meter cargo ship ran aground in the Bosphorus, after which the movement of ships through the strait was temporarily suspended, the Turkish Coast Guard said.

“The 229-meter vessel Alexis ran aground in front of Istanbul’s Haydarpasa breakwater due to equipment failure,” Haber Global quoted a report as saying.

It is clarified that the movement of ships was suspended in both directions. According to the Marine Traffic ship movement map, a cargo ship flying the flag of Liberia was traveling from Ukraine to Egypt.

On March 29, it was reported that ship traffic across the Bosphorus was blocked due to a broken cargo ship. The rudder of a Sea Turtle broke off the coast of Istanbul’s Kandilli district.
