American businessman Elon Musk’s SpaceX is likely violating obligations to the US government because it does not provide access to satellite Internet in Taiwan, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing Mike Gallagher, chairman of the US House Select Committee on Strategic Competition with China.
“SpaceX may not be providing broadband Internet access in and around Taiwan, possibly in violation of SpaceX’s contractual obligations to the US government,” the publication quoted the politician as saying.
It is clarified that in his letter, Gallagher wrote that SpaceX should provide the Pentagon and other American departments with broadband Internet access around the world, since the US authorities have allocated more than $100 million for the corresponding Starshield program.
